Designing with Icons: When Landmarks Inspire Furniture

Storytelling that explores the dialogue between Guatemalan monuments and modern design.

At Rev, we believe that furniture should tell a story, and the best stories begin with a strong sense of place. In a country where every corner carries history, memory, and meaning, we donโ€™t need to look far for inspiration. Guatemalaโ€™s cultural and natural landmarks are our moodboards. They shape not just our designs, but our design philosophy.

We draw from the architectural language of our surroundings: the carved wood balconies of restored colonial homes, the symmetry and scale of the Palacio Nacional, the windows of mid-century homes, and  the beauty that we find in facades all around us. These structures aren’t just beautifulโ€”they are anchors of Guatemalan identity.

But it doesnโ€™t stop at architecture. Nature is its own landmark. The soft curves of Lake Atitlรกnโ€™s shoreline, the dense symmetry of Patzicia crops, the graphic ombre colors cast by the sun at sunset on the Pacific coastโ€”all of these forms find their way into our silhouettes, textures, and material choices. Our pieces may feel sculptural, but they are never abstract. They are rooted in a lived and local visual language.

At Rev, designing with icons means recognizing that whatโ€™s around usโ€”the visible and the rememberedโ€”is what makes our work resonate. It’s how a piece of furniture becomes more than an object. It becomes an ode. To place. To memory. To Guatemala.
