Nestled in the serene beauty of Lake Atitlán, our latest design project showcases how the Quahtemallan textile collection can enhance the natural elegance of a retreat space. By incorporating these rich, culturally-inspired fabrics and wallpapers into key areas of this house rental, we’ve demonstrated how Guatemalan craftsmanship can seamlessly blend with modern design, transforming any interior into a vibrant, inviting space.
Textiles that Tell a Story
One of the standout features of this project is the use of Xibalba Blue in the bedrooms. We designed a bold headboard that spans nearly the entire width of the room, using this deep, mythical shade to create a calming yet striking focal point. The intricate design, inspired by Mayan mythology, brings a sense of mysticism and serenity to the space, reflecting the tranquil energy of the lake.
In the living area, we created a cozy breakfast nook with a wall bench upholstered in Maxtate fabric. The black and white geometric pattern adds a sleek, modern vibe while staying true to the traditional Guatemalan patterns. This balanced contrast perfectly complements the surrounding natural elements and the minimalist aesthetic of the space.
Wallcoverings as Art
To further elevate the ambiance, we incorporated Xibalba Pink and Catre neutral wallpapers into key accent walls. The Xibalba design brings a sense of depth and texture to the room, while the Catre pattern—an homage to the traditional Guatemalan catre or stacked mattress—adds a unique, modern twist to the space. These wallcoverings act as more than just decoration; they replace traditional artwork, framing the room and enhancing the overall atmosphere with subtle elegance.
